Madonna University Alumna Heather Stewart Recognized for Dedication and Compassion in the Classroom

LIVONIA, MICH. – Heather Steward (MAT '04), a dedicated kindergarten teacher at Deerfield Elementary School, has been named the 2024 Novi Community School District Educator of the Year. With a 23-year career marked by a commitment to her students and unwavering support for their families, Stewart has fostered a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all. 

Stewart's dedicated extends beyond traditional classroom instruction. She champions the inclusion of children with special needs, learning disabilities, and visual impairments, seamlessly integrating them into her classroom. 

The impact of Stewart's work extends far beyond the classroom walls. Parents, students, and colleagues nominated her for this award, highlighting her teaching skills and compassion. Stewart's dedication was particularly evident during a challenging time for one family, where she provided invaluable emotional support to children and parents after the loss of a child. 

Marla Feldman, Vice President of presenting sponsor Feldman Automotive, recognized the importance of celebrating educators like Stewart. "Teachers are the backbone of our kids's education," she said. "It's really important that when you find that special one, to be able to recognize them and give them everything you can."
